The 5 Push Up Rule

First rule of being your best fit: Yes, talk about being fit.

No, seriously, the first rule is actually showing some mental muscle with the 5 Pushup Rule.

From today forward, if you catch yourself being self-critical and negative toward your body image, you do five pushups.

If you beat up on yourself in your own brain, five pushups.

Saying “Everyone else is doing better than me”? 5 pushups.

Saying, “I suck at this”? 5 pushups.

Saying, “I’m never going to figure this out”? 5 pushups.

Saying, “I can’t do pushups……………………”? 5 pushups.

You get the idea.

Of course, the goal here isn’t to turn you into a pushup machine (though that is cool) or make pushups a “punishment”. (Remember focus on progress not punishment).

Rather, it’s to call out your constant self-defeating thoughts and statements, then “reboot” the “negative nancy brain” through good exercise and movement.

(5 jumping jacks, pullups, swings, or yelling la-la-la-la-la will do just as well.)

I catch clients at my Strength Squad bashing themselves all the time and they don’t even realize they are doing it…

So catch yourself next time and then drop to crank out some reps if need be, you might stop just long enough to…well stop beating yourself down and start building yourself up.
